The New Rules of Media

I very clearly do not subscribe to the direction media is going, at the very least for content creation or production. I probably consume a fair amount of content, hence why I find this article interesting. I can see the trend that content creators, media outlets, and every podcast under the sun is going through right now.

The dark forest theory

This idea has been around for a while, but I just recently came across this theory as it’s applied to the internet (the post itself is a little old as well 😬, but still relevant I think)

Nova

Branding ● 2016

A wide-range branding project for a fictional space travel company. The project involved creating a language and collateral for a brand. The project started with a logomark, then led into a photographic language, then the application of these elements to the brand collateral.

Initial Mark Sketches

The values of the company meant that the logomark should convey an uplifting sense of movement. It should also convey a sense of exploration and some indication of celestial bodies.

The Final Mark

The final mark, selected after audience testing and feedback, was then integrated in with typography. 'NOVA' follows the same arc created by the wing of the ship to give a greater sense of movement and to also imitate a horizon.

Collateral

The next step included developing collateral items, such as letterheads, websites, and a branding showcase booklet.

Decomposition

Data Visualization ● 2017

A data visualization project focused on analyzing a process and breaking down the steps. The subject of decomposition was chosen as a challenge to show something unappealing in a visually interesting way. A visual language was developed to convey the information effectively.

Visual Language

In order to make the subject of decomposition a visual style was created. It draws inspiration from several information distribution sources, focusing on solid colors and geometric shapes.

The Poster

The visual language was then applied to the poster, which went through its own process of development.

Ebola and the Flu

Data Visualization ● 2015

A data visualization project where data and information was gathered from several sources. It was then analyzed and cross-referenced to create a graphic. The project compared the infection rates of Ebola and the flu along with the differences in fatality rates and the chance of infection over time.

Data

Data and information was gathered from multiple sources and compiled. It was then analyzed to find trends and differences of interest.

Design Speculation & Web Design ● 2017

A collaborative semester-long project. The overall goal was to create a product 7 years out that was within speculative reasoning. I worked on developing the user interface elements along with creating the website in Adobe Muse.

Interface

There were several points of cross collaboration on this project, but one of the large aspects I worked on was the user interface for the initialization.

Counter

Design Research ● 2018

An iterative project with a focus on a solution to a real world problem. The project began with a research cycle, discovering current problems and possible solutions. A direction was then evaluated and chosen. The chosen solution then went through a feedback loop with potential users.

Ecosystem

The first step of the design process began with researching an ecosystem and determining if there is something that can be improved on.

Next, it was determined where in the ecosystem would the solution take place. Examples were made as rough placeholder ideas.

Counter is a thought-challenging platform for collaborative discussions. The application allows users to challenge their own thoughts and ideas with informed arguments.

After the values and purposes of the solution were determined, then the form was chosen. The system structure shows a way for a user to navigate the application.

Branding

Along side the structure; some preliminary branding identity was worked on including a wordmark and some iconography.

Prototyping

With these resources a more concrete prototype was made in Adobe XD.

With the feedback from the first prototype a refined thesis and work on the final prototype began.

Hello World

Welcome to My Creative Journey

Hello, and welcome to my blog! This space is where I’ll be documenting my creative projects and sharing my thoughts on design, UX, and the ever-evolving world of technology. My goal is simple: to create a space where I can work on my writing skills, share my explorations in various creative fields like drawing, sticker making, music, photography, animation, and more, and engage with others who are passionate about creativity and innovation.

I believe that creativity thrives on the balance between input and output. I'm constantly seeking new ideas and ways to 'rewild' my attention, and I hope to capture that journey in these posts. Whether it’s experimenting with new artistic techniques or exploring the potential of AI in design, I want this blog to reflect my eagerness to learn and grow.

As I venture into this space, I plan to share weekly updates on what I'm working on, thoughts on emerging trends in UX, and perhaps some reflections on the challenges and rewards of a creative life. This isn't just about documenting my projects; it's about fostering a conversation—about design, technology, and the intersection of hand-crafted creativity with cutting-edge innovation.

So, if you're a fellow creative or someone interested in design and technology, I hope you’ll join me on this journey. Let’s explore, learn, and create together.

Thanks for stopping by, and I look forward to sharing more with you soon!
